What is the best practice to prepare and dose the vase solution?

The best practice chronologically!

  1. It all starts at the point of sale. See to it you get the correct amount of cut flower food for the size of the bouquet and the size of the vase expected to match (see: The Best Match, question 4)
  2. Buy a bottle of cut flower food for the correct dosage and for the top up/refill
  3. Use a clean vase or one that has been cleaned, don’t forget to brush!
  4. Preferably always rinse and brush before using the vase/container, or use the Chrysal vase cleaning tablet
  5. Open the sachet of cut flower food and put the content in a measuring jug, watering can, vase or bucket. (N.B. If you use the measuring can you normally use for cooking, rinse properly after use)
  6. Fill with the correct amount of water as indicated on the packaging and stir firmly
  7. Use fresh tap water at the temperature it comes from the tap, preferably fill the vase with the amount of water for one week
  8. Remember only good results can be expected when the cut flower food is dosed correctly, in a dosing range from minimum 80% and maximum 150% of the recommended dosage
  9. Chrysal Clear cut flower food dissolves completely, so a sediment at the bottom of the vase means a non-clear cut flower food was used
  10. The sediment is thicker if the hardness of the water (alkalinity) is higher (see question 12)
  11. Do not mix Chrysal vase cleaning tablets or any other vase cleaning products with cut flower food
  12. Do not put flowers in cleaning solutions, the solutions may be phytotoxic to your flowers, which means premature wilting and possible leave burning!
  13. Check water level daily, ensure stems are in the water
  14. Top up/refill with the same cut flower food if the water level is under 1/3 of the initial volume
  15. Preferably use the same cut flower food, if the specialty is not available any more, use the universal cut flower food.

It‘s as simple as it is.
